My name is Leena. This blog, Drowning Prevention Task Force, started because of the scariest day of my life. My dear son, Ian, nearly drowned when he was six. Ian knows how to swim—he had already been taking lessons for a year. He and a friend were playing in an inflatable boat in the pool and it flipped over. We got the kids and the float upright, and everything seemed OK. I did not realize that Ian had swallowed some water, and in less than 24 hours we would be in the ER because he couldn’t breathe. We were lucky that we were able to get him the proper treatment and avoid the fatality of a secondary drowning, and this blog is my way to help others learn from what I went through.
